Captured by The Light with Rosemary Morris
Friday 9am-1pm

This workshop will be an introduction to Cyanotype Printing.
Cyanotype is a photographic printing process that produces a cyan-blue print. It was invented in 1842 by Sir John Herschel and is known for its simplicity and distinctive blue color.
We will be printing on various surfaces and create an art journal made with our prints.
Rosemary Morris from Fort Smith, AR discovered mixed media and junk journals 9 years ago. She realized she could incorporate her background in home construction and architecture into this art form. You can see that influence when she uses wood, plaster, and metal in her bookmaking and art.

Flag Book Workshop with Helen Kwiatkowski
Saturday 2pm-6pm

The Flag book, originally developed by Hedi Kyle, is a sculptural book structure that is perfect for both writers & visual artists. For writers, flags may contain words only or incorporate both words and visual elements. For visual artists, flags may be either (exclusively) decorative or narrative. Mediums might include photographs, painting, drawing and/or collage.
When read page by page, the viewer will see disjointed fragments of the intended story or image. When the spine is pulled fully open, these fragments will reveal a more complete story or message. Front and back covers provide additional decorative opportunities, imagery, or message. This workshop will cover both the basic flag book structure and creative ways of handling the flags. Completed book size is 3 ½” x 5 ¼”.
Helen Kwiatkowski is a retired Art Professor and full-time artist living in Fayetteville, AR. She is primarily a painter but also works in mixed media and book arts. Her work is best described as narrative art and her work has been included local, regional and national exhibitions. She is a 2021 recipient of a Mid-America 3 60 Grant and currently on the roster of the Arkansas Committee of the National Museum of Women in the Arts. In addition to making art, she teaches a variety of adult and children’s workshops and plays the ukulele.
